Ask your doctor: keep the plan tied to your concern

Begin with the change you want help with. Ask your doctor or the person providing your medical care. There is no need to choose a medicine before you arrive.

Facts checked on September 26, 2026.

What do you think is causing this?

Ask what needs checking before a treatment decision. If you are discussing weight, sleep, changes in your periods or sexual wellbeing, ask how the person providing your care will assess that concern.

What would change the plan? What other care could help?

Why this medicine?

Ask for the full product name and form. What evidence fits your concern? Were women with a similar concern included? What is still uncertain?

For a medicine prepared to order, ask what need an approved product would leave unmet. Who would prepare it?

How do my plans affect the discussion?

If relevant, ask about pregnancy, trying to conceive, breastfeeding or birth control. Ask which parts of the product’s label apply to your situation.

Ask the person providing your care to review the other medicines and supplements you take. What do they need to know before a decision?

How will we judge progress?

What change are we hoping to see? When will we talk again? Who reviews test results? What would prompt a fresh assessment?

Ask for the plan in writing, using words you understand.

Can I ask more questions later?

Advice for state medical boards, as of September 26, 2026, said patients must have a way to put later questions to their care provider.

The Federation of State Medical Boards issued that advice; the advice itself is not a national law.

Ask how to send a question and who responds.

What would the full plan cost?

Ask which services the visit price or membership covers. Is the medicine extra? Are tests, shipping or later visits extra? How are the fees handled when the visit ends without a prescription?

Use the payment worksheet to turn those gaps into a written set of questions.
