Cost checklist: a headline price is only a start

Ask for a price that describes your whole plan. A medicine price and a care fee answer different questions.

Facts checked on September 26, 2026.

Which charges are included in the quote?

What kind of price are you reading?

For branded weight and diabetes medicines, the maker’s published price, a price for paying from your own pocket, and your share when using insurance can differ.

List price means the maker’s published price; your own cost may be different.

Ask for the price for your exact product and way of paying.

How large can a cash medicine charge be?

The makers’ offers to people paying cash were mostly about $149 to $499 for a month of these medicines, as of September 26, 2026.

The product, its strength and the offer’s conditions determined the price. Some refills cost more if too much time had passed since the last delivery.

Strength means how much medicine is in the product.

Depending on the product, an advertised month might refer to a box, a tablet bottle or enough medicine for 28 days.

Ask how many days the quoted supply would last for your prescribed plan. Ask for a written quote rather than treating the range as your budget.

Is the care fee extra?

In a sample of online weight-care offers checked September 26, 2026, most charged a membership and billed the medicine separately.

The price check did not cover every service, and no purchase was made to check the final bill.

Ask whether tests, shipping and follow-up are included. Ask for the ongoing price after any introductory offer.

Can Medicare help with the cost?

Eligible people could obtain certain weight medicines through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge for $50 per monthly supply, as of September 26, 2026.

GLP-1 is a substance the body makes that helps control hunger and blood sugar. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are examples of medicines that mimic its action.

This temporary programme began July 1, 2026, and ran through December 31, 2027; it operated outside Medicare’s usual prescription-drug coverage, Part D.

Who could qualify depended on their health and Medicare plan. A prescription and approval from the programme were also required.

As of September 26, 2026, that payment was excluded when adding up your spending against the annual Part D limit for covered care.

Ask the plan and the person providing your care to check whether the programme applies to you.

Will the offer still apply later?

The September 26, 2026 check found that many offers for cash payment and savings-card terms ended on December 31, 2026.

Ask for the offer’s end date and what price is confirmed beyond it.

Cash prices reflect advertised maker offers with conditions. The Medicare agency explains its separate programme and eligibility rules.
