Fact check: approval belongs to a product

The useful question is precise: what product is this, and what is its status in the United States?

Facts checked on September 26, 2026.

Keep the product details together

Exact name

Product form

Intended use

Bring all of these into the approval check.

What does an approval actually cover?

The FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, reviews a particular medicine for a named use.

On September 26, 2026, semaglutide products Ozempic and Wegovy, and tirzepatide products Mounjaro and Zepbound, were among the approved peptide medicines.

Ask how the proposed use relates to the exact product.

Does a drug identification number prove approval?

The government identifies medicines in its drug records with a number called a National Drug Code.

A drug’s code was not proof of approval by the FDA on September 26, 2026.

Registering a business with the FDA does not mean the FDA approved the medicines that business makes.

Request the record of approval for that product; a badge or code is not enough.

What about a research label?

In warning letters reviewed as of September 26, 2026, the FDA treated products promoted for human use as drugs despite research-only labels.

Those letters made FDA accusations about specific firms; they were not court decisions.

A research label does not turn a treatment offer into an approved medicine.

Are newer products approved yet?

As of September 26, 2026, the FDA stated that retatrutide and cagrilintide were not approved products and could not be made to order under federal law.

Ask about an approved option for your concern. For a medicine still being studied, ask whether it can legally be prescribed or made by a pharmacy.
